About the Role
Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Housekeeping/Hotel, the Supervisor, Housekeeping oversees day-to-day operations within the Department, focusing on maintaining and improving Housekeeping services and operations to align with Forbes standards and enterprise policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Assistant Manager, Housekeeping/Hotel in leading all Housekeeping operations.
- Monitors and evaluates daily departmental activities for assigned team members to ensure successful day-to-day management.
- Collaborates with other Hotel departments to ensure seamless customer service and quality performance.
- Assists with assignment and distribution of room assignments and work duties.
- Coordinates scheduling and completion of deep cleaning and related projects.
- Ensures timely and efficient execution of guest room turnover as defined by service standards.
- Ensures adherence to Hotel and enterprise brand standards at all times.
- Keeps up to date on health and safety policies and ensures all team members meet standards of safety, cleanliness, and maintenance, including maintaining current certifications.
- Conducts regular inspections of the Hotel to ensure adherence to cleanliness and maintenance standards.
- Ensures proper usage of chemicals and cleaning supplies, including monitoring usage, confirming team member training, and proper labeling of hazardous supplies.
- Ensures all equipment is maintained and used correctly, with essential supplies on hand and properly identified.
- Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies, stockrooms, and carts.
- Maintains Forbes Travel Guide standards through daily inspections of corridors, closets, and rooms (suites, VIPs, and site rooms).
- Performs routine inspections of check-out rooms and spot checks of occupied rooms.
- Inspects all vacant clean rooms and releases them in the system as ready for occupancy.
- Completes daily scored inspections for Room Attendants, including at least one occupied and one vacant room per team member.
- Inspects House Person sections and landing closets daily and provides scores.
- Monitors report status and discrepancies of rooms.
- Oversees and contributes to a motivating environment that encourages team collaboration, learning, and skill development.
- Leads by example, empowering and coaching a diverse team throughout their employment lifecycle.
- Provides guidance and training to Housekeeping Team Members to achieve performance standards.
- Coordinates with the Facilities Department for repair of guest rooms and public areas.
- Reports and follows up on maintenance defects to ensure efficient resolution of requests.
- Assists with departmental issues in collaboration with the Housekeeping Assistant Manager to improve performance.
- Assists with administering the lost and found program and handling VIP and special requests.
- Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
- Carries a radio and wears an earpiece for communication.
- Performs essential duties listed under Housekeeper and House Person job descriptions as needed for efficient operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support department efficiency.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, reviewing, and directing work.
- Evaluates and appraises performance, rewards and disciplines employees, and addresses complaints and resolves problems.
- Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning for all key roles.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree is required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in Housekeeping, Janitorial, Custodial, or a related field required; experience within an upscale hotel strongly preferred.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience leading and coaching others to meet and exceed standards is preferred.
- Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements.
Skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of housekeeping service techniques and productivity levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and property maintenance systems.
- Proven supervisory problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to identify and prioritize issues, delegating as appropriate, to drive measurable results.
Licenses and Certifications
- May be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license at the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission.
Physical Requirements
- Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting, with travel required for meetings, trade shows, and conferences.
- May be required to work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
- Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently; may move up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Sedentary work involving sitting most of the time, with constant operation of a computer and office productivity machinery.
- Physical activities include balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Hearing sufficient to understand conversational levels in person, via videoconference, and over the telephone.
- Speech sufficient to be heard and understood in person, in groups, in meetings, via videoconference, and over the telephone.
- Visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, reading, and inspecting employees, visitors, or facilities.
- Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and operate a motor vehicle for travel.
- Endurance to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods and maintain efficiency throughout the work shift and during extended hours.
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, including secondhand smoke.
