Responsibilities
- Captures and directs the activities of all personnel within assigned section.
- Develops work plan and priorities employing established policies and procedures to ensure timely and accurate completion of assignments.
- Ensures department procedures and processes meet all regulatory compliance.
- Provides on-site, telephone, or electronic support to testing personnel at all times testing is performed.
- Supervises testing personnel performing moderate and high complexity testing.
- Maintains test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performances are maintained.
- Solves technical problems and ensures remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
- Evaluates, establishes, and maintains required procedures and quality control systems.
- Reviews quality improvement data, statistics, and performance indicators, identifying recommendations and participating in the implementation of problem resolutions.
- Implements new test systems and/or processes and ensures all regulatory requirements are met.
- Participates in the development and adherence of departmental budget.
- Identifies opportunities for cost savings of reagents and supplies.
- Serves as a resource for continuing education of staff, students, and hospital personnel.
- Provides orientation and training to all testing personnel.
- Anually evaluates and documents the performance of all testing personnel (competency).
- Assures timely submission of regulatory reporting, proficiency testing, and other required submissions.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications/Requirements
- One (1) or more years of supervisory experience within a laboratory setting.
- Four or more years of relevant work experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Lab Technologist or Clinical Lab Scientist.
- Experience with QC / QA / Regulatory requirements.
- Experience working the bench in the respective supervisory department with ability to use sound judgement when making decisions.
- Bachelor's degree in Sciences, Medical Technology, or related degree required.
- A valid New York State Education Department License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
