Supervisor Courier Services

About the Role

As a Supervisor Courier Services, you will plan, organize, and supervise the daily operations of courier services for the hospital, clinics, and other ancillary areas for the transport of laboratory specimens, mail, pharmaceuticals, and other supplies. You will oversee the daily operations of couriers, manage a team of 20 FTE, and ensure timely and accurate deliveries across the state of Iowa, making over 200 stops per day.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily courier operations to provide hospital specimen and supply transport services.
• Ensure compliance with DOT standards for specimen and chemical transport.
• Account for all deliveries to ensure sensitive specimens/supplies are promptly delivered to appropriate locations.
• Schedule and adjust staff to ensure appropriate coverage based on workflow.
• Review and optimize courier logistical software for route efficiency, vehicle management, and client supply management.
• Communicate with clients and laboratory staff to ensure client satisfaction.
• Conduct interviews, hire staff, and manage performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
• Lead daily huddles and staff meetings, and develop/maintain orientation/competency materials.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with hospital, laboratory, and accrediting agency standards.
• Support LEAN principles and productivity standards.
• Assist in budget development, business planning, and capital equipment evaluation.
• Develop and maintain quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate fleet management, purchase supplies and equipment, and code invoices for payment.

Requirements

• Previous experience with direct supervision, logistics, and/or laboratory experience preferred.
• Valid Driver’s/Chauffeur’s License required, meeting Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
• Completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; Associate’s degree required.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 6am-4pm range.
