Supervisor - Cafeteria
Job Summary
The Café Supervisor oversees front-of-house operations, ensuring consistent execution of food service standards and staff performance. This role includes direct supervision of Zone Supervisors and FOH staff, with responsibility for staffing, training, safety compliance, and quality assurance. The Supervisor exercises independent judgment in daily operations and supports strategic planning and continuous improvement.
Primary Duties
- Manage Zone Supervisors and FOH staff, assisting with hiring and performance evaluations, and foster a positive work environment through coaching and conflict resolution.
- Develop and maintain training programs for FOH associates, ensuring timely completion and adherence to safety, sanitation, and service standards.
- Supervise daily food service operations, monitor equipment and food safety logs, and ensure consistent quality and compliance during all meal periods.
- Oversee cash handling procedures and assist with food and supply procurement, ensuring cost-effective practices aligned with budgetary goals.
- Lead initiatives in safety, sanitation, equipment maintenance, and quality control, while collaborating with leadership to refine operational procedures.
Additional Responsibilities
- Post daily menus for the current/next day meals and post forecast for the team to see the upcoming amount of forecasted guests arriving.
- Perform daily facility inspections and forward reports of deficiencies to the Unit Manager or General Manager.
- Perform pre-service meeting with FOH Associates daily to go over any new concerns or issues that are of importance.
- Perform personnel hygiene and uniform inspections during daily pre-shift meetings.
- Perform Quality Control inspections in all areas of the contract daily with Xenia or on the paper copy if unable to use the phone based inspection.
- Coordinate and assign staff to workstations throughout the shift, ensuring roles are rotated regularly to promote cross-training and prevent task fatigue.
- Follow all safety rules of your work site. Report all unsafe conditions or accidents to your supervisor and follow all Safety protocols and procedures.
- Practice standard precautions (formerly universal precautions) at all times.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Certification(s)
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required. Some college preferred.
- Five years' experience in managing a cafeteria or multi-full food service facility preferred.
- Serve-Safe Manager Certification or ability to obtain within six months required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be thoroughly knowledgeable in the following areas: sanitation, conducting training, security, food preparation, customer relations, menu selection, safety and accident prevention, equipment maintenance.
- Must have the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and environment.
- Adhere to all local, state and federal safety and environmental codes, ordinances, standards and laws.
- Adhere to all Network and/or Affiliate safety plans, policies, practices and standards.
- Requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office software, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit. The employee may occasionally lift or move products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
