About the role

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising, labor management, and planning of inbound, outbound, product slotting, and customer communication activities daily, including labor scheduling, space utilization, equipment, and manpower. People management responsibilities include hiring and training, planning and assigning daily work, conducting performance appraisals, addressing performance issues, and resolving problems.

Under the direction of the Operations Manager or Distribution Center Manager, the Supervisor oversees the receiving, warehousing, and shipping of products in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives. Associates are expected to meet company objectives in performance, safety, and quality while complying with all corporate and site-specific policies.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts staff meetings to review daily/weekly work activities, plan, and assure continuous improvement.
  • Keeps senior management and client representatives informed of critical issues affecting operations.
  • Develops systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products safely and profitably in accordance with company policies and guidelines.
  • Manages operations to meet prescribed productivity and service goals, complying with terms outlined in the site's operating agreement with the client.
  • Implements and reports on cost-saving measures, providing ideas and suggestions for more efficient operations.
  • Meets all client-specified KPIs and complies with Quality system requirements.
  • Applies sound communication and motivational techniques, creating programs to fairly supervise, counsel, and discipline team members.
  • Provides direction and support to Human Resources, assisting in hiring, training, and professional development programs.
  • Participates in performance evaluation systems for recommending promotions, wage increases, and other HR activities.
  • Oversees training and evaluation of warehouse staff.
  • Plans daily work schedules by reviewing work orders, arrival notices, and customer instructions, assessing priorities based on time sensitivity and resources.
  • Assigns duties to appropriate warehouse staff and reviews pending jobs or trends to reorganize warehouse space and adjust staffing or supplies.
  • Trains new staff or delegates training to experienced team members, assessing progress and adding duties as appropriate.
  • Monitors the quantity and quality of work performed throughout the day, providing guidance as needed.
  • Assigns supervisory duties to experienced team members acting as leads for lower-level staff.
  • Keeps the Manager informed of progress or problems requiring attention and holds regular meetings with staff to assess status and discuss improvements.
  • Assists in physical operations as needed.
  • Delivers results by leveraging the right people at the right time.
  • Maintains high motivation in team members to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Provides growth and development opportunities for team members.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews for team members.
  • Supports adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and trains team members on corporate and client SOPs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 3 years of experience working in a logistics, distribution, or relevant environment.
  • 1 year of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Preferred: Prior MHE certification or knowledge of basic MHE operation.
  • Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.

Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with RF Scanners and WMS functions.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, verbal) for business communication.
  • Basic to intermediate mathematical skills for verifying product quantities, counting inventory, and related tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good organizational and personnel management skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Leadership, supervision, and planning abilities.
  • Able to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends, as required by operations.
  • Participates in cross-training to improve knowledge across departments and assist as a backup when needed.
  • Adapts effectively to change and thrives in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Works overtime as dictated by business needs, whether mandatory or voluntary.
  • Able to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures, which may range from mild to moderate during warmer and colder months.

Pay

The expected base pay range for this position is $70,000.00 – $80,000.00 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
