About the Role

The Contractors State License Board is recruiting for a Supervising Special Investigator I in the Enforcement Division, located in Norwalk, CA. This role supervises field investigators and office support staff responsible for investigating and processing consumer complaints against licensed and unlicensed contractors.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a staff of field investigators and office support staff in the Norwalk Investigative Center.
• Oversee investigations and processing of consumer complaints filed against licensed and unlicensed contractors.
• Plan, organize, and direct investigations.
• Gather, analyze, and prepare effective evidence.
• Dictate correspondence and prepare reports.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relations with Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license and participation in the DMV's Employer Pull Notice Program (EPN).
• Medical clearance prior to hiring.
• Submission of a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1, and within 30 days of leaving office.
• Fingerprint submission to the Department of Justice for background check.
• Residency in California upon hiring.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of investigation techniques, procedures, and rules of evidence.
• Understanding of laws related to arrest, search and seizure, and legal rights of citizens.
• Skill in planning, organizing, and directing investigations.
• Ability to supervise staff, interpret laws, and communicate effectively.
• Experience in personnel management and promoting equal opportunity.

Working Conditions

Candidates residing outside California may interview but must relocate to California upon hiring. Effective July 1, 2025, employees will participate in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025), which reduces monthly salary in exchange for leave credits.
