About the Role

This is a limited-term position for 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to 24 months or conversion to a permanent role. Under the direction of the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) or Supervising Registered Nurse (SRN) III, the SRN II is responsible for:

  • Planning, assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of nursing and other assigned staff in a service line delivery area.
  • Receiving, disseminating, implementing, and monitoring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Applying supervisory rules and principles to resolve personnel issues.
  • Setting goals for self and others to ensure continuity of quality patient care.

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) requires full-time employees in Bargaining Unit S17, and related Excluded, Exempt, and Statutory Exempt employees, to have their base salary reduced by 3% and receive 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries listed do not reflect this change.

Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following experience requirements:

  • One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Supervising Registered Nurse I, Correctional Facility.
  • Three years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Registered Nurse, Correctional Facility.
  • Three years of registered nursing experience within the last five years, including:
    • One year in a supervisory capacity.
    • Two years in a general acute care hospital.
    Note: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or a Master's Degree in Nursing may substitute for one year of general acute care hospital experience.

Candidates within six months of completing these requirements may apply but must fulfill all requirements before eligibility for appointment.

To obtain list eligibility, candidates must first take and pass the Supervising Registered Nurse II examination.
