About the Role
The position is responsible for complete oversight, direction, and control over operational district maintenance within an assigned district. The incumbent will structure and allocate all resources, including personnel, vehicles, equipment, materials, and budgetary funds. Responsibilities include hiring, assigning, developing, promoting, and terminating subordinates. A high degree of independent judgment is required, as policies and procedures may not cover all encountered situations. Errors in judgment could adversely affect the perception and image of the City.
Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, leads, and controls all resources, processes, and programs involving operational maintenance and park maintenance facilities.
- Monitors work output and complaint resolution of all subordinates.
- Ensures repair, maintenance, and improvement of all district and park assets are done in a craftsmanship and cost-effective manner.
- Monitors budgetary funds allocated and spent within assigned districts.
- Establishes good working relationships with the bargaining unit and applicable City personnel.
- Assists in the development and promotion of a safe and productive working environment for all subordinates.
- Ensures streets, sidewalks, and trail-ways are clear of weather-related events and made passable.
- Advises superiors and the public information officer of any situation that could adversely impact the image or perception of the City.
- Ensures adherence to the city’s policy and procedure manual regarding hiring and termination of subordinates.
- Plans and schedules work by setting priorities and goals, reviewing and evaluating work product and performance.
- Monitors progress of work, directs training of subordinates, and provides counseling and disciplinary action.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with five (5) years of progressively responsible experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience. Any combination of related education or work experience totaling nine (9) years is acceptable.
- Working knowledge of local, state, and federal rules, regulations, ordinances, and other pertinent documents.
- Knowledge of planning, directing, supervising, and reviewing the work of others engaged in street maintenance.
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) with strong office management experience.
- Ability to maintain professional demeanor in stressful situations while resolving problems.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently as well as within a team.
- Able to adapt to changing priorities and direction as needed.
- Creative problem-solving skills with a critical eye for detail.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or Operations Management is preferred.
Working Conditions
- Work is predominantly performed in an office environment as well as on street locations.
- Exposure to environmental elements such as dirt, dust, odors, and all-weather conditions.
- Required to work twelve (12) hour shifts dependent upon weather and respond to emergencies involving weather-related events.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting at a desk the majority of the day.
- Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
- Tasks require the ability to perceive and hear sounds and see visual cues or signals.
- Tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
