About the Role

An established developer and general contractor is seeking a Superintendent I to lead field operations on commercial construction projects throughout the Chicagoland area. The organization has built a reputation for delivering complex multifamily, mixed-use, and commercial developments while maintaining a strong focus on quality, collaboration, and client satisfaction.

The Superintendent I will be responsible for managing day-to-day construction activities on assigned projects from groundbreaking through completion. This individual will serve as the primary field leader, coordinating subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, driving quality control initiatives, and ensuring a safe and productive jobsite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all on-site construction operations, including subcontractor coordination and supervision.
  • Develop and maintain short-term and long-term project schedules.
  • Drive project safety initiatives and ensure compliance with all OSHA and company standards.
  • Manage site logistics, manpower planning, and construction sequencing.
  • Conduct regular coordination meetings with trade partners and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure work is completed according to plans, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Identify potential schedule and budget impacts and proactively implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee inspections, testing, commissioning activities, and project turnover.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to maintain schedule, budget, and project objectives.
  • Manage punch lists, closeout documentation, and final client turnover.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of commercial construction experience.
  • Previous experience as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Field Engineer on commercial projects.
  • Strong background in multifamily, mixed-use, hospitality, retail, or large-scale commercial developments.
  • Ability to lead subcontractor teams and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Strong understanding of scheduling software, construction methods, and field operations.
  • Experience reading construction documents and coordinating multiple trades.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
