Superintendent II

Job Summary

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Superintendent II oversees multiple active projects, including DOT, highway, and night paving operations. This role also supports workforce development by leading trainings, mentoring, and improving team performance.

Essential Functions

• Determine and supervise daily on-site operations to meet safety, quality, production, and scheduling standards.

• Manage Job Production Plans (JPPs), schedules, and pre-construction activities, collaborating with the Project Manager.

• Maintain project oversight through detailed logs, accurate tracking, and understanding of contracts, plans, and specifications.

• Proactively resolve field issues, identify cost-saving opportunities, and coordinate with the Job Cost Accountant.

• Foster a safety culture by leading safety meetings, enforcing policies, and facilitating training sessions.

• Support career growth and develop future leaders by mentoring foremen and crew leaders.

Requirements, Education And Experience

• 7+ years of relevant construction experience, including highway, DOT, and/or night paving projects.

• Demonstrated success as a Superintendent or in a comparable field leadership role.

• Strong technical knowledge of asphalt paving, milling, grading, and heavy highway work.

• Ability to train others and share knowledge across teams.

• Solid understanding of construction budgets, job costing, and crew planning.

• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with scheduling or construction software is a plus.

• Ability to read and interpret project specs and plans.

• Authorized to work in the U.S.

Other Duties

• Frequent regional travel across Massachusetts is required.

• Some overnight work or extended commutes may be necessary based on project demands.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

• Highest mobility, field-based position with variable hours, including some night work.

• Works outdoors in hot, humid, and inclement weather.

• Heavy work includes moving objects up to 50 lb. or more.

• Requires standing for long periods, lifting, bending, squatting, walking, reaching, and repetitive motion.
