Summer Intern (Client Service)

About the Role

Doeren Mayhew is a leading tax, assurance, and advisory firm with a strong national presence and a history dating back to 1932. As a summer 2028 Financial Institutions Group (FIG) audit intern in our Houston, Texas office, you will specialize in auditing financial institutions. Ranked as the #1 credit union auditing firm by Callahan & Associates, our FIG offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public accounting. During the first week, you’ll undergo training to learn audit software, procedures, and collaborate with experienced professionals. Your responsibilities will mirror those of first-year audit associates, providing a clear view of a career in public accounting.

Responsibilities

• Assist with audit, review, and compilation engagements
• Support employee benefit plan audits, including 401(k) plan audits
• Prepare and organize audit workpapers and supporting documentation
• Perform testing of account balances, transactions, and internal controls
• Assist with confirmations, reconciliations, and analytical procedures
• Communicate professionally with clients and firm personnel
• Research accounting and auditing matters assigned
• Participate in team meetings and engagement planning
• Maintain confidentiality of client and firm information
• Complete other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in accounting
• Completion of at least one intermediate accounting course
• 3.0 GPA (cumulative and in accounting major)
• Work experience preferred (related or unrelated to accounting)
• Strong drive and motivation to pursue a career in public accounting
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to take initiative via work experience and/or extracurricular activities
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proven time management skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities
• High degree of curiosity, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm
