About This Role

Science Akadémeia invites motivated and dedicated individuals to join our summer camp team as Summer Camp Counselors for our immersive STEM-focused summer camp program. In this role, counselors will foster a dynamic, supportive, and engaging environment that encourages science, engineering, robotics, nature, and creative problem-solving through hands-on activities and projects. Ideal candidates are college students pursuing education, science, engineering, computer science, psychology, or related fields, or individuals with a passion for working with young children in an active learning environment.

What You'll Do

  • Establish and maintain a safe and inclusive camp environment for all campers
  • Participate in daily STEM-based camp activities, including science experiments, engineering challenges, robotics, and creative projects
  • Lead engaging small group activities and promote teamwork and participation
  • Support camp instructors and staff in preparing materials and organizing activities
  • Maintain a positive and respectful camp atmosphere
  • Assist with transitions between activities, meals, and outdoor play
  • Ensure classroom organization and cleanliness
  • Communicate effectively with staff, campers, and families

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must complete the DECAL Health and Safety Training (online) prior to working with children
  • Must attend the mandatory orientation the week prior to camp
  • Must be available Monday–Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM during the camp dates
  • Current college student or recent graduate preferred
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Energetic, reliable, and professional demeanor
  • Ability to supervise groups of children in both indoor and outdoor settings
  • Must pass a DECAL comprehensive background check

  • Creativity and ability to develop engaging activities
  • Ability to make activities fun, engaging, and hands-on
  • Comfort leading games, experiments, and creative challenges
  • Experience working with children
  • Previous work as a camp counselor, tutor, babysitter, teacher assistant, or youth mentor
  • Volunteer work with youth programs or community organizations
  • Leadership skills and ability to guide groups
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with teachers, camp staff, and other counselors
  • Supports a cooperative and respectful work environment
  • Cultural curiosity and interest in global learning
  • Interest in global learning, nature, science exploration, and diverse cultures
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to think critically
  • Ability to think on their feet when activities don’t go as planned
  • Encourages children to experiment and find solutions
  • Professional responsibility and commitment to following protocols
  • Punctual, dependable, and accountable
  • Comfortable following school policies and safety procedures
