Summer 2027 Intern-Coatings R&D Intern
About the role
The Coatings R&D intern will work with a senior chemist to support development of new chemistries and products for use as coating ingredients that enhance various performance attributes.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and design new chemistries for use as coating additives or resins.
- Formulate and test coatings to ensure performance properties meet requirements for target applications.
- Conduct fundamental studies to understand structure‑property relationships using different analytical techniques.
- Document all studies and present findings to the technology team and leaders.
Qualifications
- Competent in conducting experiments in a chemical lab setup and using basic analytical instruments.
- Prior experience or knowledge of coating technologies preferred but not required.
- Ability to learn and execute quickly, collaborate in a team, solve problems, and apply an analytical mindset.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Program Qualifications
- Must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and remain enrolled for at least one semester after the internship ends.
- Available 40 hours per week for a 10‑12 week period between May and August.
Education Requirements
- Completed B.S. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- Enrolled in an M.S. or Ph.D. program in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
Schedule
Full‑time (40 hours/week) for 10‑12 weeks during the summer months (May–August).
Pay
Base Pay Range: $22.00 – $26.00, determined by education, experience, skill sets, and geography.
