About the role
Sugar Beet Piler Laborers perform duties at beet receiving stations located at American Crystal Sugar factory districts. Workers will not perform any agricultural labor or services; sugar beets handled have already been harvested and transported from farms to the processing facilities. Duties occur at the initial stage of processing and manufacturing sugar products.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload sugar beets to and from sugar beet pilers
- Manually assist in positioning and directing trucks and equipment at piling sites
- Collect sugar beet samples by placing beets into sample bags for routine testing
- Gather, remove, and clean scattered sugar beets and debris from the work area and piler
- Perform other closely related duties consistent with SOC Code 53-7062.00, Laborers and Freight, Stock, and Material Movers, Hand
Work environment
- Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions (cold, heat, wind, rain, snow)
- Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 35 pounds
- Exposure to moving equipment, dust, and debris from harvest conditions
- Personal protective equipment is required and must be worn as needed
- Drug testing may be performed post-accident, injury, or upon reasonable suspicion
Schedule
- 35+ hours per week
- 12-hour shifts between 8:00 am – 8:00 pm or 8:00 pm – 8:00 am
- 7 days per week during a 10-15 working day season (Sunday–Saturday)
- May work evenings, weekends, holidays as needed
- Schedule (including workdays) may vary
- May work more than the guaranteed hours; overtime varies
Pay
- Base pay: $21.11 per hour
- Overtime: $31.67 per hour
- Workers will be paid no less than the wage listed; employer may pay higher rates based on seniority and skill level
- Opportunity for incentive bonuses based on quantity and quality of work (offered at employer’s discretion)
Benefits
- Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST): 1 hour accrued for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours per year (MN State Statute, effective January 1, 2024)
- Employer-provided housing at no cost (optional; workers may secure their own lodging)
- Daily transportation provided from employer-provided housing to worksites, or workers may report directly to worksites
- Work tools, supplies, and equipment provided at no cost
- Transportation and subsistence from place of recruitment to place of work arranged and paid by employer
- Reimbursement for visa, visa processing, border crossing, and related fees (excluding passport fees) in the first work week
- Upon completion of contract or early dismissal, employer will cover reasonable costs of return transportation and subsistence
Location
- Primary worksite: 16217 70th Street NW, Georgetown, MN 56546
- Multiple worksites within the area of intended employment, including Becker, Clay, Norman, and Polk counties
Requirements
- No formal education, training, or experience required
- On-the-job training provided
- Must be able to stand for long periods and lift a minimum of 35 pounds
Employer guarantees to offer work for at least three-fourths of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period.
