Substitute - School Counselor (2026-2027 SY - General Pool)

About the role

The Substitute School Counselor at Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) supports students' academic, social-emotional, and career development through various means.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and evaluate the comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the ASCA national model.
• Deliver the school counseling core curriculum via classroom instruction and small group activities.
• Provide responsive services based on academic, career, and social/emotional data, offering short-term counseling interventions.
• Crisis response to assist students with social-emotional and mental health concerns, making appropriate referrals to external providers.
• Collaborate with other members of the Student Support Team and community partners to support positive social-emotional development and overall mental health.
• Educate and assist students in understanding the college process, including financial aid, college materials, applications, online registration, scholarships, etc.
• Maintain confidential and non-confidential student records and participate in professional learning opportunities.
• Prepare and communicate information to parents and staff through various documents and reports.

Requirements

• A Master's degree in School Counseling.
• A Valid Virginia Department of Education Pupil Personnel Services License, with an endorsement in School Counselor, or eligibility to obtain the PPS License with the appropriate endorsement upon hiring.

Qualifications

• Experience in the specialized school counseling field is preferred.
