About the role

School counselors utilize leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to promote student success, provide preventive services, and address identified student needs through a comprehensive school counseling program.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students with academic, career, and personal/social development goals and plans.
  • Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified needs or prevention-oriented activities.
  • Consults and collaborates with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources.
  • Manages and communicates the comprehensive school counseling program based on the ASCA National Model, COMAR, and school data.
  • Maintains and interprets student data for educational stakeholders.
  • Develops and implements an effective referral and follow-up process.
  • Maintains current and appropriate resources for education stakeholders.
  • Conducts a yearly program audit and measures program outcomes.
  • Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.

Qualifications

  • Education, Training, and Experience: Master’s degree in school counseling from an accredited college or university.

  • Licenses and Certificates: Maryland Educator Professional Certificate with School Counselor endorsement.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of school counseling principles, curriculum, instructional techniques, assessment procedures, and data analysis.

Salary

$41.05 per hour
