Minimum Qualifications
- Possess a minimum of 48 semester units from an accredited college/university, or
- Request to take the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) exam with the district (a rigorous multiple-choice exam testing proficiency in undergraduate core classes).
Required Documentation
- Copy of college transcripts, or
- Letter requesting the district’s NCLB exam.
General Employment Conditions
- Subscribe to an Oath of Allegiance.
- Submit to a general tuberculosis examination.
- Complete fingerprinting.
- Complete a pre-placement physical examination.
- Show proof of identity and right to work in the United States.
- Compliance with the district’s drug-free workplace policy, including passing a drug test.
Examination and Eligibility
- Applicants must meet training, education, and experience requirements and pass all examination parts for the classification to be placed on the eligibility list.
- Certification: The Classified Personnel Director submits the top three ranked candidates to the appointing power for selection; unselected candidates remain on the eligibility list.
- Eligibility lists are valid for six months and ranked by total examination score.
- Regular employees of the Escondido Union School District receive a service credit of 0.5 points per full year of classified service (maximum 5 points) added to their final composite scores in open examinations.

- Shift differential: 3.75% above base pay for eligible bargaining unit employees working more than four hours between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m.
- Sick leave: 12 days per year for regular full-time twelve-month employees; accrual without limit.
- Vacation: 12 days per year for regular full-time twelve-month employees; increases after five years of service.
- Professional growth: Salary increments available after one year of service for continuing education.
- Veterans preference: Additional points added to passing scores in open examinations for entry-level classifications as prescribed by Education Code Section 45196.
Employment Status and Probation
- Substitute employees are “at-will” employees with no employment rights beyond pay for service rendered.
- Regular classified employees serve a probationary period of up to six months or 130 days of paid service, whichever is longer.
