Substitute Housekeeping Supervisor (Union)

The ideal candidate will monitor all aspects of the department and will supervise, train, and inspect the performance of all associates within the department, ensuring that all procedures are completed per hotel standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards.
• Ensure that standards are maintained at a superior level on a daily basis.
• Monitor and control operation of various sections including, but not limited to, linen room and floors.
• Inventory, issue, and control use of linen, amenities, cleaning supplies, and other housekeeping supplies.
• Prepare daily task assignments for room attendants.
• Ensure guest complaints are resolved in a timely manner.
• Responsible for lost and found.
• Recommend hiring, developing, counseling, motivating, and disciplining staff in accordance with hotel policies and procedures.
• Support and uphold hotel philosophy concerning hiring, employee relations, supervision, and disciplinary action.
• Interact in a courteous and professional manner with all guests, staff, and community members.
• Respond in a courteous, professional, and rapid manner to resolve all guest and staff difficulties.
• Apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of nonstandard intellectual and practical problems to perform and direct varied and complex tasks.
• Supervise, direct, coordinate, influence, and persuade staff to maintain service standards of the hotel.
• Interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions, particularly with supervisors, subordinates, co-workers, and guests.
• Interpret and comply with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
• Perform a variety of duties, often changing tasks without loss of efficiency or composure.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of work area.
• All other duties as required.

• Ability to perform mathematical operations with units of measure including dollars, cents, feet, inches, cups, pounds, and ounces.
• Required to speak, read, and write English, with fluency in other languages preferred.
• Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting 25 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times, and satisfactorily communicate with guests and co-workers.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum two years’ experience in a similar capacity for a luxury or ultra-luxury property, preferably in a union environment.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills and familiarity with HOTSOS and OPERA.
• Thorough knowledge of public area management and laundry operations; knowledge of proper chemical handling and following OSHA requirements.
• Ability to manage payroll and schedules; control the budget; train and develop the Housekeeping and Laundry departments; motivate staff and develop incentive programs to improve productivity.
