Job Description

Hired applicants must be able to pass both the DCI criminal history background check and the prework physical requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Iowa BOEE Paraeducator certificate preferred
  • Ability to relate effectively to children with special needs
  • Evidence of the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved
  • Must maintain a loving, caring, helpful relationship with children
  • Must have initiative and the insight to anticipate problem situations and/or children in need of assistance
  • Willingness to attend training to assist with specific student's needs
  • Ability to follow policies and practices

Position Information

Substitute employees will be notified of available substitute assignments on an as-needed basis to fill in for absent staff. Hours and the frequency of assignments will vary depending on district staffing needs, employee absences, and the substitute's availability.

The Human Resources Office will receive notification that the application has been submitted. HR will then send the DCI Background check form to the applicant. Upon approval from DCI, applicant will receive information about the substitute onboarding process.
