About the role
HDR is seeking a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. This role involves designing and coordinating structural aspects of high voltage electrical switchyards and substations up to 500kV. The ideal candidate will work closely with project managers and teams to ensure the successful execution of structural engineering tasks.
Responsibilities
- Execute structural engineering tasks for various substation structural members, including steel shapes, lattice framing, and tubular shapes.
- Perform detailed design, calculations, and detailing for substation structures, including foundation designs.
- Prepare and review specifications for construction and materials.
- Assign project tasks to EITs and provide technical guidance to non-structural project team members.
- Coordinate and perform quality checks and reviews for project deliverables.
- Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.
- Mentor and train EITs and designers.
- Work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyards and substations.
- Experience with industry-standard software like PLS-Tower, Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, etc.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred/ Desired Qualifications
- Technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyards and substations of varying complexity.
- Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113, and other industry standards.
- Experience with AISC-360, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and other industry standards.
- Self-starter with strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
