Substation Project Structural Engineer

About the role

HDR is seeking a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. This role involves designing and coordinating structural aspects of high voltage electrical switchyards and substations up to 500kV. The ideal candidate will have experience with steel structures, foundations, and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Execute structural engineering tasks for various substation members, including steel shapes, lattice framing, and tubular steel shapes.
• Design and prepare specifications for substation structures, including drilled piers, spread footings, and driven piles.
• Assign tasks to EITs and provide technical guidance to non-structural team members.
• Coordinate quality checks and reviews of project deliverables.
• Mentor and train EITs and designers.
• Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
• Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyards and substations.
• Experience with industry standard software such as PLS-Tower, Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, STAAD Pro, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE, or similar.
• Self-starter with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred/ Desired Qualifications

• Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113, and other industry standards.
• Experience with AISC-360, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and other industry standards.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The target salary range for this position is $90,682 - $145,990.
