About the role

HDR is seeking a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. This role involves designing and coordinating structural aspects of high voltage electrical switchyards and substations up to 500kV. The ideal candidate will work closely with project managers and teams across multiple offices.

Responsibilities

  • Execute structural engineering tasks for substation members like rolled steel shapes, lattice steel framing, and folded plate tubular steel shapes.
  • Design and calculate foundation elements such as drilled piers, spread footings, and driven piles.
  • Prepare and review specifications for construction and materials.
  • Assign tasks to EITs and provide technical guidance to non-structural team members.
  • Perform quality checks and reviews of project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.
  • Mentor and train EITs and designers.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, working independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyards and substations.
  • Experience with industry-standard design software, including PLS-Tower, Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD, or MicroStation.
  • Knowledge of AISC-360, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and other industry standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Qualifications

  • Technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyards and substations.
  • Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113, and other industry standards.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
  • An attitude and commitment to HDR's employee-owned culture.

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position depends on skills, experience, education, and location. The targeted salary range is $90,682 - $145,990.
