About the role
HDR is seeking a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. This role involves designing and coordinating structural aspects of high voltage electrical switchyards and substations up to 500kV, including steel structures and foundations.
Responsibilities
- Execute structural engineering tasks for various substation members such as steel shapes, lattice framing, and tubular shapes.
- Design and calculate foundation elements like drilled piers, spread footings, and driven piles.
- Prepare and review specifications for construction and materials.
- Assign tasks to EITs and provide technical guidance to non-structural team members.
- Conduct quality checks and reviews of project deliverables.
- Mentor and train EITs and designers.
- Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.
- Participate in project reviews and coordinate with teams in different locations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyards and substations.
- Experience with industry-standard software such as PLS-Tower, Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, STAAD Pro, SAP, etc.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred/ Desired Qualifications
- Technical design experience with outdoor design of high voltage electrical switchyards and substations.
- Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113, and other industry standards.
- Experience with AISC-360, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and other industry standards.
- Self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
