About the role

HDR is seeking a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. This role involves designing and coordinating structural aspects of high voltage electrical switchyards and substations up to 500kV, including steel structures and foundations.

Responsibilities

  • Execute structural engineering tasks for substation members like rolled steel shapes, lattice steel framing, and folded plate tubular steel shapes.
  • Design and fabricate detailed drawings for substation structures, including drilled piers, spread footings, and driven piles.
  • Prepare and review specifications for construction and materials.
  • Assign project tasks to EITs and provide technical guidance to non-structural team members.
  • Perform quality checks and reviews for project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.
  • Mentor and train EITs and designers.
  • Work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyards and substations.
  • Experience with industry standard software such as PLS-Tower, Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, and STAAD Pro.
  • Self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

Preferred/ Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113, and other industry standards.
  • Experience with AISC-360, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and other industry standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position depends on experience and location. The targeted salary range is $90,682 - $145,990.
