About the role

HDR is seeking a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. This role involves designing and coordinating structural aspects of high voltage electrical switchyards and substations up to 500kV. The ideal candidate will have experience with steel structure and foundation analysis and design, as well as familiarity with industry standards and software.

Responsibilities

  • Execute structural engineering tasks for substation projects, including detailed design, calculations, and detailing for fabrication or development of loading and concept drawings.
  • Design and prepare specifications for foundation elements such as drilled piers, spread footings, and driven piles.
  • Assign project tasks to EITs and provide technical guidance to non-structural project team members.
  • Perform quality checks and reviews for project deliverables according to HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.
  • Mentor and train EITs and Designers.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to manage multiple projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects, including foundation and steel structural design.
  • Experience using industry standard design software, including PLS-Tower and Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

Preferred/ Desired Qualifications

  • Technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity.
  • Familiarity with the latest NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113 and other industry standards.
  • Experience using industry standard design software, including STAAD, RISA, MFAD, L-Pile, or Equivalent.

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. The targeted salary range is $90,682 - $145,990.

This is a Full-time Employee Status position.
