About the role
HDR is seeking a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. This role involves designing and coordinating structural aspects of high voltage electrical switchyards and substations up to 500kV. The ideal candidate will have experience with steel structures, foundations, and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Execute structural engineering tasks for substation members like steel shapes, lattice framing, and tubular shapes.
- Design and fabricate substation structures, including drilled piers, spread footings, and driven piles.
- Prepare and review specifications for construction and materials.
- Assign tasks to EITs and provide technical guidance to non-structural team members.
- Perform quality checks and reviews for project deliverables.
- Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.
- Mentor and train EITs and designers.
- Work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyards and substations.
- Experience with industry standard software such as PLS-Tower, Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, STAAD Pro, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE, or similar.
- Self-starter with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred/ Desired Qualifications
- Technical design experience with outdoor design of high voltage electrical switchyards and substations.
- Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113, and other industry standards.
- Experience with AISC-360, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and other industry standards.
