About the role

HDR is seeking a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. This role involves designing high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects, working closely with Project Managers and project teams across multiple offices.

Responsibilities

  • Execute structural engineering tasks for substation structural members, including steel shapes, lattice framing, and tubular shapes.
  • Design and calculate foundation elements such as drilled piers, spread footings, and driven piles.
  • Prepare and review specifications for construction and materials.
  • Assign tasks to EITs and provide technical guidance to non-structural team members.
  • Conduct quality checks and reviews of project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.
  • Mentor and train EITs and designers.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects.
  • Experience with industry-standard software like PLS-Tower, Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, and STAAD Pro.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred/ Desired Qualifications

  • Technical design experience with outdoor design of high voltage electrical switchyards and substations.
  • Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113, and other industry standards.
  • Experience with AISC-360, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and other industry standards.
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position depends on skills, experience, education, and location. The targeted salary range is $90,682 - $145,990.
