Function
Special Services Coordinator for Special Education will plan, develop, articulate and supervise Special Education Programs under delegated authority from the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services.

Responsibilities
- Provide continuing supervision of Special Education instructional staff within their buildings.
- Employment of staff
- Evaluation of teaching performance
- Placement of students
- Development and implementation of curriculum
- Program planning/budgeting
- Budget monitoring
- Making sure Special Education Programs operate according to Federal, State, and District rules and regulations
- Chairs all annual reviews ensuring appropriate IEPs are developed and implemented in a timely manner
- Develops and implements a program of professional growth activities designed to improve and expand the competencies of the instructional staff in their program areas
- Maintains communication with colleges and universities affiliated with Special Education Teacher education and training programs
- Calls and assigns all student teachers to appropriate classrooms as requested by cooperating colleges and universities
- Defines, establishes and modifies policies and procedures for the operation of those programs in their area
- Maintains and disseminates current information regarding rules, regulations and legislation related to Special Education
- Coordinates and coordinates staff efforts to maintain guidelines in each of the areas assigned
- Submits reviews of each program to the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services
- Attends all Special Services Departmental Supervisor's meetings
- Communicates with community organizations
- Serves on a community organization committee
- Participates, develops and implements the Special Education "Action Plan"
- Attends assigned in-service training

- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback
- Ability to compose correspondence, reports, and/or other required written materials
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints
- Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to perform basic math using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals consistent with the duties of this position
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability to identify and define problem(s), collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
- Constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines

- Primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors
- In-district and out-of-town travel required as necessary for training and/or to carry out duties and responsibilities
