Student Services Assistant (Part-time)- Monolingual and/or Bilingual- 8/2026

Candidates will be notified of their status around the close of the posting. Those who meet the necessary qualifications will be invited to test to get on the eligibility list for hire. Recruitment will establish an eligibility list to fill current vacancies and those occurring within the 2026-2027 school year.

Requirements

• Subscribe to an Oath of Allegiance
• Submit to a general tuberculosis examination
• Be fingerprinted
• Complete a pre-placement physical examination
• Show proof of identity and right to work in the United States
• Comply with the District’s drug-free workplace policy; employment is contingent upon satisfactory drug test results
• Possess relevant training, education, and experience required for the classification
• Successfully pass all examination parts to attain placement on the eligibility list

Certification & Eligibility

• When filling a vacant position, the Classified Personnel Director submits the names of the top three ranked candidates to the appointing power for selection.
• Names of those not appointed remain on the eligibility list.
• Candidates who complete all phases of the application and examination process are ranked on the eligibility list by total examination score, typically valid for one year.
• Regular employees of Escondido Union School District or those on re-employment lists receive a service credit of 0.5 points per complete year of service (up to 5 points) added to their final composite scores.

• Holidays: Regular classified employees receive pay for 16 authorized holidays (for twelve-month employees), provided they were in paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday.
• Longevity Pay: Increments are added to base pay effective July 1 after completing the required years of service:

• Sick Leave: Regular full-time twelve-month employees earn 12 days of paid sick leave per year, with no accumulation limit. Sick leave is prorated for employees working less than twelve months.
• Vacation: Regular full-time twelve-month employees earn 12 days of paid vacation leave per year, with increased days after 5 years of service. Vacation is prorated for employees working less than twelve months.
• Shift Differential: Employees required to work more than four hours of their regular shift (non-overtime) between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. receive a 3.75% pay increase for the entirety of each applicable day.
• Retirement: Employees working four+ hours per day must join the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and Social Security; contributions are made by both the District and employees.
• Professional Growth: After one year of service, regular classified employees may earn additional salary increments for continuing education.
• Veterans Preference: Veterans and disabled veterans receive preference points added to passing scores in open examinations for entry-level classifications, as defined by Education Code Section 45296.

Employment Terms

• Probationary Period: Newly appointed employees serve an initial probationary period not to exceed six months or 130 days of paid service (whichever is longer). Paid service includes days worked, approved vacation, and designated holidays but excludes illness, personal necessity, bereavement, or limited-duty assignments.
• Merit System: Appointment and continuing employment are based on the merit principle, as outlined in the merit system Rules and Regulations.
