About the role

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) is seeking two Student Life Technician positions in Ogden. These roles involve working with residential students at the Deaf School, with a flexible schedule from August to June, 5 nights a week.

Responsibilities

  • Helps to monitor and consequate behavior as prescribed by written interventions.
  • Records corresponding data.
  • Helps students increase independence in eating, dressing, toileting, communication and leisure skills.
  • Reports student progress to staff and parents as needed.
  • Communicates with parents and teachers.
  • Follows prescribed procedures in emergency situations.
  • Reports medical problems to medical staff and assists in rendering emergency and maintenance health care under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Supervises students in the cottages and on activities.
  • Transports students (some may be in wheelchairs) to and from meals and activities.
  • Provides basic custodial care of facilities, does laundry and dishes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirements include American Sign Language (ASL) skills, experience with students with behavior challenges, taking data and tracking behavior, MANDT training or Crisis Prevention Training, strict confidentiality compliance, clear and effective communication, and successful completion of a criminal background check.

Supplemental Information

There are risks associated with potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, such as working with non-compliant, self-abusive, and/or aggressive students. The position requires strenuous physical activities including long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, and heavy lifting of students with limited mobility and/or their special needs equipment. Successful completion of a drug test is also required.

Pay & Schedule

Salary range: $20.00 - $20.00 per hour. Work Schedule: Grave Shift: Sunday 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., Swing Shift: Monday through Thursday 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., and available to substitute for other Student Life Technicians.
