Compensation: $19.50 per hour + 4% vacation pay
Hours: Minimum 4 hours per week. From 8:00pm to 12:00pm from Sunday to Saturday.
Terms: Part-Time / Student Term Contract / In-Person / Multiple Vacant Positions. Employment is contingent on campus facilities being open and may be suspended or terminated in the event of a campus closure.
About the Role
The Student Library Clerk position provides regular support service to students, faculty, and other library patrons at the Circulation Desk.
Responsibilities
- Charge, discharge and renew library material.
- Sort and shelf material; regularly check shelves to ensure that the books are in order.
- Enforce library policies and emergency and security procedures.
- Maintain photocopiers/printers; troubleshoot and provide basic instructions to users on printers, photocopiers, and scanners.
- Answer directional and informational questions; refer library users to appropriate personnel when necessary.
- May be responsible for opening and/or closing the library.
- May provide work direction to Student Library Assistants.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a University of Toronto graduate program (federated colleges or University of Toronto graduate student, ideally an iSchool student).
- Ability to communicate effectively in English in person, on the telephone, and in writing.
- Ability to push book trucks, shelve books, lift heavy boxes, and move material.
- Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with other employees and library patrons.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, attendance, and punctuality.
- Demonstrated experience following opening/closing procedures.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
