Student - Library Circulation Desk
About the Role
This position is to begin as soon as agreed upon for the semester and end on a determined basis, and requires federal work study funding. See this page for more information about work study.
Responsibilities
- Check out and discharge books for library patrons at the Circulation Desk.
- Assist patrons with locating resources within the library and online.
- Help patrons with basic printing and directional questions.
- Provide basic to intermediate research help via chat and in person, including searching for known titles or conducting exploratory searches.
- Become familiar with physical and electronic resources available through the library website, including databases and library guides.
- Refer users with in-depth questions to the suitable subject librarian.
- Monitor the library's FAQ and assist with related inquiries.
Training for chat monitoring and research help will be two days, approximately two hours each day. The first day covers the library website, and the second day covers research methods. A detailed online guide with examples will be provided.
Qualifications
REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION:
- Cover letter with information about work-study funding for the starting semester and experience using library resources (databases, articles, books, online guides, etc.).
