About the role
The Student Health Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating student health services through a holistic and evidence-based approach that fosters physical, emotional, and mental well-being. The Manager develops and implements health programs, provides direct care and referrals, ensures regulatory compliance, supports health education, and collaborates with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to promote and sustain a healthy campus environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversees and evaluates student health and wellness programs.
- Develops and maintains policies and procedures related to student health services.
- Conducts health screenings, physical assessments, and maintain student health records.
- Ensures compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA).
- Assesses, implements, evaluates, and revises evidence-based strategies to support student wellness.
- Provides health services within the scope of nursing practice based on College Health Nursing Standards.
- Collaborates with contracted physicians, specialists, and external health providers.
- Maintains and monitors secure electronic student health records using PyraMED.
- Administers first aid, over-the-counter medications, and manages inventory and medical supplies.
- Affords students health insurance through NY State of Health.
- Trains campus personnel in health screening techniques, emergency responses, and health protocols.
- Serves as a liaison to healthcare providers, community agencies, and college departments.
- Serves as the point of contact for students, faculty, and staff regarding health concerns.
- Refers students to appropriate resources for alcohol/drug addiction and other wellness-related concerns.
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Counseling, Director of Housing and Residence Life, and the Senior Director, Center for student Well-Being on substance use education and prevention.
- Reviews the annual budget expenditures related to health services with the Senior Director, Center for Student Well-Being.
- Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates professional, support, and student staff.
- Uses electronic health data to compile clinical activity reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensures appropriate medication storage and accurate health documentation.
- Advocates for institutional policies that support student health and wellness.
- Develops and promotes health education campaigns, prevention programs, and awareness events.
- Represents the College on committees and task forces addressing student health and wellness.
- Provides medical absence notifications to faculty for hospitalized students as appropriate.
- Maintains current knowledge of effective college health strategies and nursing practices.
- Remains active in professional organizations such as the American College Health Association (ACHA), NYS College Health Association (NYSCHA), and others.
- Attends professional development events and incorporates best practices into service delivery.
Qualifications
- An Associate’s degree in Registered Nursing is required, Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, health promotion or public health (or related field) is preferred.
- Certification in Adult CPR/AED/First Aid required.
- Two years of experience in college or community health preferred.
- Experience in health promotion and wellness programming preferred.
- Understanding of public health laws and college health program requirements (FERPA, HIPAA, NYS immunization laws) required.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to develop and assess programs based on student needs and data.
- Certitude with electronic health records systems (e.g., PyraMED) preferred.
Skills and Requirements
- New York State Licensed Registered Nurse required.
- Two years of experience in college or community health preferred.
- Experience in health promotion and wellness programming preferred.

Benefits and Salary Range
- Competitive starting salary in the range of $60,103 - $63,108 and is commensurate with qualifications.
- A flexible work schedule is available upon successful completion of training.
- This position follows a hybrid model, with a combination of on-site and remote work.
