About the role
The Student Health Services Physician provides comprehensive, outpatient primary care services exclusively to University of California, Riverside (UCR) students. The Physician delivers evidence-based medical care that integrates prevention, health education, reproductive health, gender-affirming care, and holistic health principles to support student well-being and academic success.
Responsibilities
- Delivers evidence-based medical care that integrates prevention, health education, reproductive health, gender-affirming care, and holistic health principles to support student well-being and academic success.
- Leads the clinical implementation of SB24 mandates.
- Requires provision of Medication Abortion (Med AB) services and gender-affirming healthcare consistent with California law, professional standards of practice, and Student Health Services policies.
Requirements
- Experience providing Medication Abortion (Med AB) services, including counseling, prescribing, clinical management, and follow-up, consistent with licensure and institutional policy.
- Experience providing gender-affirming and transgender healthcare, including primary care and management of gender-affirming hormone therapy when clinically appropriate.
- Experience providing primary care and outpatient medical services in a clinical setting, including evaluation, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Experience delivering preventive health services and patient education, including health screenings, immunizations, and counseling related to wellness and risk reduction.
- Experience prescribing medications and managing treatment plans in accordance with evidence-based clinical guidelines.
- Experience making appropriate referrals and coordinating care for complex diagnostic, procedural, or specialty medical needs.
- Experience working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Experience providing women’s health services, including reproductive and preventive care, to a young adult population.
- Experience providing women’s health services, including reproductive and preventive care, to a young adult population.
- Experience in college health, student health, adolescent health, or young adult medicine, particularly within an outpatient or campus-based clinical setting.
- Experience identifying and responding to mental health concerns in primary care settings, including screening, brief intervention, and referral.
- Experience practicing in diverse, multicultural, or underserved populations, with demonstrated commitment to health equity and culturally responsive care.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited medical school.
- Experience in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Demonstrated experience providing Medication Abortion (Med AB) services, including counseling, prescribing, clinical management, and follow-up, consistent with licensure and institutional policy.
- Demonstrated experience providing gender-affirming and transgender healthcare, including primary care and management of gender-affirming hormone therapy when clinically appropriate.
- Demonstrated experience providing primary care and outpatient medical services in a clinical setting, including evaluation, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Demonstrated experience delivering preventive health services and patient education, including health screenings, immunizations, and counseling related to wellness and risk reduction.
- Demonstrated experience prescribing medications and managing treatment plans in accordance with evidence-based clinical guidelines.

- Knowledge of women’s health, triage/urgent care, Medication Abortion (Med AB) protocols, and gender-affirming/transgender healthcare, consistent with California law and institutional policy.
- Knowledge of preventive medicine, health promotion, and patient education principles.
- Knowledge of California laws and regulations governing medical practice, prescribing, and patient confidentiality.
- Ability to provide patient-centered, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care while maintaining professional ethics, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work effectively independently and within an interdisciplinary healthcare team, including coverage that may extend beyond a standard 8- hour workday.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, safely lift and move up to 40 pounds, and perform clinical duties requiring manual dexterity and adequate visual and auditory acuity.
- Ability to document accurately and timely in an electronic health record.
- Experience with or training in Medication Abortion (Med AB) services and gender affirming care, or willingness to obtain training consistent with licensure and institutional policy.

Pay
The full salary range for the Student Health Physician is $152,157 - $390,471 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $275,000 annually.
