Position Overview

This position will assist in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children in a childcare setting. Responsibilities include supporting daily routines, promoting positive interactions, and helping to implement age-appropriate activities that encourage learning and development. The role also involves ensuring the well-being of all children by maintaining a clean and organized space, following health and safety guidelines, and collaborating with other staff members to provide consistent, high-quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Childcare Services (98%): Provide high-quality care and support for children in a childcare setting, including:
    • Ensuring compliance with KDHE licensing regulations
    • Engaging with children at an appropriate developmental level
    • Implementing positive behavior management strategies
    • Collecting and maintaining accurate data related to child development and program activities
  • Team Collaboration (2%): Support and collaborate with other staff members to maintain a safe, organized, and nurturing environment for all children.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have completed at least 3 clock hours of child development training, or indicate in application materials a willingness to complete this training prior to the start date
  • Willingness to obtain pediatric First Aid certification within 30 days of employment, as indicated in application materials
  • Willingness to obtain pediatric CPR certification within 30 days of employment, as indicated in application materials

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children, as indicated in application materials

Position Requirements

  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours
  • For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester
  • Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students (exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments do not apply to Student Hourly appointments)
  • Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR
  • This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently
