Position Summary Information

The purpose of this position is to assist in meeting the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of a group of young children and model for CDEC students’ appropriate teaching and care-giving practices. This is accomplished by assisting in writing and implementing daily activity plans; by helping children with physical skills, self-esteem, social, cognitive, and communication skills and observing children for developmental milestones.

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
    • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
    • Current Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certification (Documentation of current certification is required within two weeks of employment).
    • Food Handler’s Certificate (Documentation of current certification is required within two weeks of employment).
    • Level I – Grade 912 (NCELREN45020) Six (6) months teaching experience in a center-based child care setting ***OR*** six (6) months of closely related teaching experience with children 0-8 years.
    • Level II – Grade 913 (NCELREN45011) Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (Submission of CDA is required) OR Twelve (12) credit hours in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.Two (2) years teaching experience in a center-based child care setting ***OR***two (2) years closely related teaching experience with children 0-8 years.
    • Level III – Grade 914 (NCELREN45016) Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (Submission CDA is required) OR Twelve (12) credit hours in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.Five (5) years teaching experience in a center-based child care setting ***OR***five (5) years closely related teaching experience with children 0-8 years.
  • Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Knowledge of Texas Child Care Minimum Standards and developmentally appropriate teaching and care-giving practices for children 18 months through 4 years. Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization, including data entry, receptionist duties, customer service, word processing and general clerical duties. Strong written and verbal communication skills in communicating with other staff, parents, and DMC students and faculty and in modeling appropriate language, vocabulary, and writing for children.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.

    Job Duties

    • Supervises children during indoor and outdoor activities and routines as required by regulating entities governing the activities of the CEL and in accordance with developmentally appropriate practices; and may work without direct supervision for all or portions of a day.
    • Affords assistance in maintaining a safe, healthy, and attractive learning environment both inside and outside, and assists with writing and implementing daily activity plans to develop safe and healthy habits, physical skills, self-esteem, creative expression, social skills, cognitive skills, and communication skills of the children assigned to his or her group and assists with sharing information with parents.
    • Affords assistance in completing center forms, which include developmental portfolios, daily meal count, attendance records, health checks, and safety checklists.
    • Maintains confidentiality of children and family information.
    • Stops unsafe activities, and reports suspected child abuse and neglect as required by law.
    • Models for CDEC students appropriate teaching and care giving practices.
    • Other duties include participating in staff development activities and communicating with parents.
