About the Role

CU Boulder is seeking a Structural Trades Supervisor to oversee all aspects of operation and maintenance for the Athletic Department facilities. This position assists with special events and coordinates outside maintenance contractors, providing comprehensive customer service to Intercollegiate Athletic Department staff, student-athletes, the University community, and the general public. The role promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program while adhering to the Athletic Department’s Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Big 12 Conference, and the NCAA.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of Structural Trades Personnel
    • Lead, plan, and schedule daily operations for a team of 2+ trades personnel.
    • Manage materials, including ordering building supplies and maintaining knowledge of specific items needed for work orders.
    • Run, plan, and schedule the work order system (FIIX), including setting timelines and utilizing back stock to complete projects.
    • Demonstrate budget consciousness and contribute to yearly planning.
  • Outside Contractors
    • Supervise and coordinate outside contractors and University maintenance personnel to ensure quality workmanship and on-schedule completion.
    • Apply broad-based knowledge of construction techniques and methods to assess potential work, considering life cycle and overall costs before recommending a course of action.
  • Operation and Maintenance of Facilities
    • Perform repairs to building systems by diagnosing problems, determining the correct course of action, and completing repairs or requesting additional assistance as needed.
    • Drive a University vehicle when required.
    • Prioritize renovation projects and recommend courses of action for major projects to supervisors, considering significant budget impacts.
  • Repair, Reassembly, and Installation
    • Maintain various equipment and machinery, including designing and implementing preventative maintenance schedules for grounds equipment (e.g., push mowers, tractors, line stripers) and construction trade tools.
  • Renovating Building Systems
    • Assess and interpret user needs to determine the appropriate course of action for renovations, including matching finishes to existing ones and completing alterations on schedule.
  • Special Events
    • Assist in coordinating special events by assessing needs, setting up, and operating events, often requiring last-minute alterations (e.g., constructing temporary entry gating systems for football games).

Schedule

7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, typically Monday through Friday. Additional work may be required on holidays, weekends, and evenings to support events, programs, and athletic competitions.

Pay

$59,500 - $64,000. Relocation assistance is available within Athletics guidelines.

Requirements

  • Six years of progressively responsible experience in structural trades (e.g., carpentry, electrical, painting, locksmithing).
  • Experience supervising a team, managing projects, or overseeing contractors.
  • Substitution: A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience totaling six years may be considered.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, and locksmithing trades.
  • Familiarity with a variety of tools and methods.
  • Ability to assess whether a job can be completed in-house or requires an outside contractor.
  • Skilled at multitasking and prioritizing jobs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of supervisory experience managing small projects and directing teams.
  • Strong communication skills for various situations.
