Structural Steel Estimating Assistant

Reports to: Estimating Manager • Department: Estimating • Location: Vancouver • Hourly: $23.00 – $27.00

About the role

Provides support to the estimating department, responsible for preparing estimates as needed for projects, specifications, proposals, and other documentation.

Responsibilities

• Creates and sends out Request for Quotes to subcontractors/vendors.
• Performs data entry for accurate pricing.
• Prepares new projects for software transfer.
• Composes and types reports and routine correspondence.
• Files correspondence and other records.
• Inputs information into computer to maintain files and job progress reports.
• Distributes appropriate documents to other departments as instructed.
• Compiles and types statistical reports.
• Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with customers, co-workers, clients and supervisors.
• Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• One-year certificate from college or technical school; three to six months related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combinations of education and experience.
• Ability to speak effectively to customers and prospects, efficient writing skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel & Word.
• Office knowledge and competence in basic math skills – add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in oral, written or diagram form.
• Knowledge of all standard office equipment – phone, computer, copier, etc.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit, occasionally stands and walks, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
• Regularly required to talk or hear.
• Seldom lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• General office and constant exposure to computer display.
• Occasional interaction with production employees in the fabrication facility.
