About the role
This role serves as an Engineering Lead and technical leader for a growing structural and construction engineering team based in Dublin, Ohio. The Structural Engineering Manager will guide complex structural and construction engineering projects, establish and maintain engineering standards, and mentor a team of engineers, designers, and technical staff. This position is ideal for a Professional Engineer licensed in Ohio who brings strong experience in structural, construction, or heavy civil engineering and is ready to help shape the future direction, standards, and technical capabilities of a rapidly growing organization.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for structural and construction engineering projects, providing authoritative guidance on complex issues.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and day-to-day support to engineers, designers, and technical staff to elevate team capability and performance.
- Review, approve, and seal engineering calculations, reports, drawings, and design packages in accordance with professional and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices, including relevant structural and construction standards.
- Lead technical problem-solving efforts on complex engineering challenges, offering innovative and practical solutions.
- Lead and oversee engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring quality, schedule, and technical excellence.
- Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports to support project delivery.
- Collaborate closely with architects, contractors, owners, and other stakeholders to develop innovative, constructible, and cost-effective solutions.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to assess existing structures and provide recommendations for repairs, modifications, or construction means and methods.
- Review and approve shop drawings and construction submittals to ensure conformance with design intent and project requirements.
- Help establish systems and workflows designed to maximize operational efficiency, minimize design errors and omissions, and maintain exceptional client satisfaction.
- Support the ongoing development of standards for specialized design services, including earth retention systems, structural underpinning, falsework plans, causeway plans, cofferdam plans, bridge beam jacking plans, and bridge beam erection plans.
- Optionally contribute to project management and business development activities, depending on individual experience and interests, to support strategic growth initiatives.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Ohio.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural, construction, or heavy civil engineering within a consulting, contractor, or owner environment.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and serve as a technical resource on engineering projects, including mentoring less experienced staff.
- Experience in structural engineering, construction engineering, or heavy civil construction, with strong exposure to temporary works and construction-related design.
- Proficiency or experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D for preparing and reviewing engineering drawings.
- Experience with Civil Tech Shoring Suite (for earth retention and retaining wall design) and/or Risa 3D for structural analysis.
- Strong understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, applicable codes and standards such as ASCE 7, IBC, AISC, and ACI.
- Experience designing steel, concrete, and retaining structures, including permanent and temporary works.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in bridge design, retaining wall design, and geotechnical-related structural systems such as earth retention and shoring.
- Familiarity with construction means and methods, including temporary structures and heavy civil construction practices.
- Interest in taking the next step into a management role, with a focus on technical leadership and staff development.
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software beyond the core tools, and openness to learning new platforms as needed.
