Based on experience and qualifications, candidates can be hired at one of the following levels:

Pay

• Streets Maintenance Technician I: $42,431.01 - $61,526.40 annually ($20.39 - $29.58 hourly)
• Streets Maintenance Technician II: $44,977.43 - $65,218.80 annually ($21.62 - $31.35 hourly)
• Streets Maintenance Technician III: $47,676.50 - $69,132.54 annually ($22.92 - $33.23 hourly)
• Streets Maintenance Technician IV: $50,537.36 - $73,280.88 annually ($24.29 - $35.23 hourly)

About the Role

Under direct supervision of the Streets Supervisor, this position performs general repair and maintenance of streets, drainage systems, signs, and signals. Employees in this classification perform manual-level work, assisting in the preparation of work areas, tools, equipment, and other related functions as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Participates in all phases of streets, gutter drainage, and alley repair and construction.
• Assists in preparing work areas and securing job sites by setting up cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices.
• Prepares tools, materials, and equipment necessary for various job assignments.
• Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and tools by cleaning and servicing regularly.
• Makes repairs in pavement, curb, gutter, and sidewalk using epoxy-based chemicals and products with supervision.
• Operates simple to moderately complex equipment, such as concrete vibrator, jack hammer, concrete saw, pavement grinder, and motorized/non-motorized hand tools.
• Maintains operational records, schedules, and fills out work orders.
• Responds to emergency situations after hours and/or on weekends.
• Participates in establishing traffic control devices such as barricades and cones; guides traffic flow at work sites.
• Assists with setup, teardown, and clean up of special events and meetings throughout the City.
• Conducts safety inspections of vehicles and equipment, sets up barricades, cones, and road signs, and wears protective gear as required.
• Assists other City employees during storms and national disasters.
• Complies with all written City policies and procedures.
• Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.
• If assigned to asphalt:
  • Assists with crack seal operations.
  • Assists with all asphalt finishing hand tools.
  • Assists with filling potholes with hot mix asphalt.
  • Assists with pavement reconstruction and repairs.
• If assigned to concrete:
  • Assists with setting up forms and rebar.
  • Assists crew members with small hand tools like shovels and concrete rakes.
• If assigned to drainage:
  • Assists with shooting elevations.
  • Assists with setting up forms and rebar.
  • Assists crew members with small hand tools.
  • Carries small debris from areas like creeks and lakes.
• Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by previous experience and/or training involving street/drainage maintenance or equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
• Must possess a valid Texas Class "A" commercial driver's license or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of employment.
• Must pass a drug screen and background check.
• Must have a Class C Texas Driver’s License.
• Must obtain the National Incident Merit System (NIMS) certificate IS-100 and IS-700 within 6 months of employment.

Schedule

• During storms or natural disasters, staff will be divided into two 12-hour shifts.
• During storms or natural disasters, staff may be called in while on vacation.

Physical Demands

Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with emphasis on climbing and balancing, and may include stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects (up to 100 pounds). Some tasks require visual and odor perception and discrimination.

Work Environment

Limited exposure to environmental conditions, including strong odors, smoke, traffic hazards, extreme heat/cold, or extreme weather conditions.
