Street & Utility Maintenance Assistant Operator

About the role

This position serves as an entry-level Street & Utility Maintenance Assistant Operator within the Public Works department of the City of Whitefish, Montana. The position involves performing a variety of construction, maintenance, and physical work tasks, operating various types of equipment, and performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and construction of public infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of general and specialized equipment, including but not limited to heavy machinery and trucks, used in construction, maintenance, and repair of public infrastructure.
• Perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair, and construction of streets, alleys, water, sewer, and storm drainage systems.
• Assist in the preparation and maintenance of records and reports related to street and utility maintenance activities.
• Participate in regular training sessions to improve skills and knowledge in the field of street and utility maintenance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate commercial vehicles.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor.
• Knowledge of basic computer operations and software applications.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and possess a valid driver’s license. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not required.

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Basic understanding of traffic control signals and signs.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
• Good physical fitness and stamina.

Pay

The starting salary for this position is $22.00 per hour, with potential for advancement based on performance and experience.

Schedule

The position is full-time and works a standard 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required during peak seasons.
