Annual salary ranges: $54,475 to $79,659, $57,858 to $84,584, and $60,990 to $89,199. Candidates are typically appointed at the lower end of the pay range. Salary ranges are subject to change; confirm the starting salary with the hiring department before accepting an offer.

About the role

A Street Services Worker performs asphalt paving and repair tasks, including raking hot mix asphalt, shoveling or spreading asphalt materials, operating screed controls on paving machines, and making small asphalt repairs (SAR) to roadways. Additional duties may include assisting with debris removal, cleaning job sites, placing traffic control warning devices, and supporting various street repair operations.

Responsibilities

• Rake hot mix asphalt to grade with an asphalt lute behind a paving machine.
• Shovel or spread hot asphalt materials to meet the grade of existing structures in preparation for rolling operations.
• Operate screed controls of an asphalt paving machine or assist with slurry crew tasks.
• Perform small asphalt repairs (SAR) to roadways.
• Maintain paperwork related to job tasks.
• Assist equipment operators by hand-loading debris.
• Clean job sites and place warning devices for traffic control.
• Perform other duties related to street repair operations as assigned.

Requirements

• Three months of full-time paid experience in raking, tamping, smoothing, or compacting bituminous (asphalt) mixtures.
• Valid Class C driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) at the time of appointment.
• Applicants with three or more moving violations, at-fault accidents, or a major moving violation conviction within the last 36 months may be disqualified.
• For certain assignments, a valid Class B driver’s license and a DMV-approved medical certificate are required within the first six months of employment.

Candidates will be notified of the test date, time, and location via email. The performance test is anticipated to take place between November 2, 2026, and November 13, 2026. Candidates have one opportunity to take the test.
