About the Role

A Storekeeper I receives, stores, and distributes equipment, materials, and supplies. The work involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities and is performed under close supervision from a technical superior. Employees work a conventional workweek in a warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures. The role requires frequent bending, lifting, pushing, and hauling heavy stock items.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, store, and distribute equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Maintain simple stock records.
  • Operate materials handling equipment.
  • Perform inventory procedures and maintain distribution records using standard business computer software.
  • Utilize the internet for routine research related to inventory and distribution.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • One year of experience in storing and issuing equipment and supplies or performing office support work.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
  • Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver’s license or an equivalent out-of-state driver’s license, and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. Provisional driver’s licenses or learner’s permits are not acceptable.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of procedures for receiving, storing, and shipping materials and supplies.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for taking inventory.
  • Ability to operate materials handling equipment.
  • Ability to use standard business computer software and the internet for routine research, inventory, and distribution record-keeping.
  • Ability to maintain simple stock records.

Additional Information

  • Candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions of trust will be required to complete a criminal background check and/or fingerprinting.
  • Selected candidates must complete a mandatory six-month probation period.
  • Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for at least six months.
  • Education must be obtained from an accredited institution; foreign credentials must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
