About the Role

This is a full-time, regular, safety-sensitive position within Fleet Maintenance, a division of the Office of Central Services. The Office of Central Services provides efficient services to county operating departments and the public through centralized purchasing, risk management, facilities management, fleet management, and real estate. The Central Garage ensures high-quality, cost-effective, and environmentally responsive fleet maintenance and fueling services for intra-county user agencies, serving over 4,400 vehicles and pieces of equipment.

This role involves routine manual and varied clerical work in stock handling and stores record keeping. Employees may assist senior storekeepers, manage a small storeroom, or perform deliveries, with work reviewed through periodic inventory audits and monitoring of work orders.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, unpack, store, and issue goods/supplies; maintain stock organization and make deliveries as required.
  • Operate routine loading equipment; fill requisitions, wrap packages for shipment, and assist in inventory.
  • Load and off-load purchase order (PO) materials; verify received deliveries, note discrepancies, and input information into the County’s database system.
  • Prepare materials from “work-order” requests for end users in a timely manner; match pulled items with work orders to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure items are appropriately placed on shelves and racks according to type/size; maintain clear bin labeling and adjacent storage for similar stock categories.
  • Report damaged materials, discrepancies in stock numbers or descriptions, and other errors.
  • Operate routine office equipment to maintain records, prepare reports, and process correspondence.
  • Prepare and maintain routine records; perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school.
  • Six (6) months or more of stock-keeping experience.
  • Valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.

This is a safety-sensitive position subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and alcohol testing.

Skills

  • Knowledge of store-keeping methods, practices, and safety precautions.
  • Understanding of purchase and requisition procedures.
  • Ability to perform routine arithmetical computations and maintain records.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment requirements from manuals, catalogs, and oral descriptions.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, clients, and vendors.

Supplemental Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of automotive and truck parts.

Schedule

Possible night shift position: 3:30 PM – midnight.
