GameStop Store Manager / Store Manager 2 oversees all facets of store operations, directly influencing the performance of everyone who interacts with guests. This role develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized solutions for every guest, providing outstanding service, and supporting the overall store environment to meet or exceed sales and profit goals.
Responsibilities
- Manage and lead store operations in a multi-unit capacity, modeling best-in-class guest service by greeting guests, addressing questions or concerns, and assisting with video gaming needs.
- Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, sales initiatives, and guest relationships.
- Process guest purchases and returns accurately using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system, ensuring top-notch service during every transaction.
- Respond to guest inquiries in person or by phone, promoting GameStop’s guest benefits such as the new title reservations program, trade-in program, and Pro Rewards loyalty program.
- Recruit, interview, hire, assess, develop, and retain high-performing associates, ensuring they complete onboarding, job training, and compliance training before working shifts independently.
- Communicate regularly with store associates and the District Manager to implement GameStop store initiatives according to plan.
- Set guest service expectations, train associates on job responsibilities, company policies, inventory control, loss prevention, safety, and financial protocols.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates, Retail Keyholders, and Assistant Store Managers, ensuring optimal staffing levels for guest service.
- Schedule store associates, approve payroll, manage paid time off, and verify accurate payment for all hours worked.
- Provide timely performance feedback and recognition to associates, documenting written feedback in the HR system.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-merchandised store, including restrooms, fixtures, and equipment, ensuring all products are represented and alphabetized on the sales floor.
- Fulfill and ship Omni-Channel orders daily, perform inventory counts, restock merchandise, and move products from the stockroom to the sales floor.
- Protect company assets through effective inventory control, loss prevention practices, scam awareness, and safety protocols, including conducting visual inspections of associates' belongings when necessary.
- Lead the store team in meeting and exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals, completing required administrative and operational duties.
- Count, balance, and reconcile daily business transactions in the POS system, ensuring accurate closeout paperwork and bank deposits.
- Verify shipments for discrepancies, record them in the POS system, and conduct merchandise counts or inventories as needed.
- Process defectives, recalls, and stock pulls accurately and promptly, ensuring proper labeling and packing lists.
- Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety, addressing hazardous situations and reporting injuries per company guidelines.
- Keep store records and files organized, ensuring manuals are up to date.
- Form professional partnerships with military personnel on assigned bases, including the Supply Base Leader (for stores located on military bases).
- Adhere to all GameStop policies and procedures, including those outlined in the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
Requirements
- Proof of identity and eligibility to work legally in the United States.
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or a related field preferred.
- At least 1 year of retail management experience required; 3 years of retail sales, guest service, or leadership experience preferred.
- Video game knowledge preferred.
Skills

- Clear verbal and written communication and listening skills in English; bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team, meeting leadership performance expectations such as attendance, personal appearance, safety, and a respectful workplace.
- Proficiency in operating a Point-of-Sale (POS) system and basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, currency) and alphabetizing skills.
- Ability to complete required paperwork accurately and follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Strong financial acumen to execute tasks in strict accordance with company policy.
- Ability to achieve objectives and lead in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
- Flexibility to work 40 hours per week, including extended hours, nights, weekends, some holidays, and occasional overtime.
- Ability to manage pressure, adapt to stressful situations, and solve problems creatively.
- Reliability, trustworthiness, and good judgment.
- Ability to work alone and stand or move throughout the store unassisted for up to 12 hours per day.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, crouch, balance, stretch, reach, climb ladders, and lift merchandise up to 30 lbs. from ground level to a minimum height of 4 feet.
- Working understanding of military ranks and related insignia (for positions in stores located on military bases).
Pay
$23.13–$31.13 per hour.
