Store Manager - Retail Region #3 Bench
About the Role
We are seeking a Bench Store Manager with leadership and retail management experience to support our South Denver Metro Retail stores, including Aurora, Castle Rock, Englewood, Highlands Ranch, Littleton, and Parker. The Store Manager plays a vital role in achieving financial targets to generate revenue and donations that sustain Goodwill of Colorado's mission-driven operations and community initiatives. This position requires a dynamic leader who can oversee multiple departments within the retail store while fostering a motivated and skilled team. A successful Store Manager is strategic, highly engaged, and actively participates in daily operations to drive overall success.
The Bench Manager role is designed to meet the dynamic needs of the business and may require assignments in locations beyond your immediate geographic area. Responsibilities include providing coverage for unexpected or planned absences, facilitating growth and training for team members, collaborating with other management personnel to enhance store performance, and contributing to business development initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with other Retail Store Managers and reporting Director to set goals and objectives to increase sales and donations.
- Responsible for developing and delivering store budget.
- Refines operational procedures toward achieving maximized expense-to-revenue ratios.
- Conducts store meetings to ensure staff members are aware of expectations and on track to achieving goals.
- Promotes safety to all employees, ensuring the store adheres to OSHA and CARF standards.
- Uses and becomes certified on pallet jack, walkie stacker, forklift, hand dolly, or other equipment to train, oversee safety standards, and move donated product.
- Empowers, leads, and manages store staff, ensuring safety, productivity, and success.
- Directly responsible for hiring, performance management, employee goal setting, and recommendations toward termination for employees in at least one department.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of and adheres to Goodwill policies, the Employee Handbook, safety standards, and all applicable policies.
- Oversees all retail store functional areas, including sales floor, store front, donation center, production areas, moving product internally, storage facilities, and E-Commerce area.
- Supports corporate culture while being open to new ideas and process improvements.
- Ability to be on call for alarm notifications after hours.
- Manages operations such as budgeting, financial reporting, profit & loss, merchandising, donation collection, loss prevention, point-of-sale systems, product quality control, and product pricing.
- Builds community rapport and customer relations with an "Attitude of Gratitude," empowering staff to accomplish professional and personal goals.
- Ensures retail stores successfully collect donations, produce merchandise, manage waste, recycling, warehousing, and merchandising of donated products, price competitively, and provide excellent customer service.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Store Manager (or similar) with accountability for business success, operations, and financial results.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High energy and strategic thinker with proficiency in office equipment, software (Word, Excel), and web-based applications (e.g., UKG).
- Ability to manage corporate email and calendar (e.g., Outlook).
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, people, and retail store functions.
- Ability to work in a deadline-pressured environment.
- Understanding of marketing and retail principles, production processes, quality control, and budget creation/implementation.
- Ability to create, review, and understand statistical information to increase store success.
- Adaptability to changing circumstances and ability to make difficult decisions.
- Experience in conducting performance feedback, reviews, and developing internal talent.
- Ability to develop a succession strategy to train and identify leadership talent.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for all organizational levels.
- Interest and empathy for people with disabilities and disadvantages.
- Able to obtain walkie stackers and/or forklift certification to safely operate equipment.
- Ability to work varied schedules, including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays, with open availability required.
- Must be able to work any hours necessary to provide complete store coverage and supervision.
- Ability to report to any assigned location within the South Denver Metro region or Goodwill administrative offices for trainings/meetings.
- Preferred ability to drive for company business (see vehicle insurance requirements below).
Vehicle Insurance Requirements
To qualify for inclusion on the Goodwill driver insurance schedule (for driving fleet vehicles or receiving mileage reimbursement), applicants/employees must meet the following criteria:
- At least 21 years of age (not engaged in passenger transportation).
- 25–70 years of age for all passenger transportation services.
- 25 years of age for CDL.
- Must undergo a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and background check.
- Must disclose all moving traffic violations or vehicle crashes within the last five years (not all violations disqualify employment; each case is reviewed by the insurance carrier).
- Must have a valid Colorado State driver license.
- Must adhere to all Federal, State, and local laws governing vehicle operation.
- If using a personal vehicle for company business, must have valid vehicle insurance and a roadworthy vehicle.

$68,000 annually.
