Manages the operation of a Walgreen store. Improves store sales, profitability, and image through proper merchandising, protection of store assets, team member selection, training, and development, and modeling a distinctive and delightful customer and patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Customer Experience
- Monitors and analyzes customer service provided by team members; offers reminders, training, and encouragement, and develops action plans for improvement in both retail and pharmacy.
- Greets customers and clinic patients, offering assistance with products and services.
- Models and shares customer service best practices, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
- Resolves customer complaints and responds to customers’ special needs.
- Operations
- Supervises store and pharmacy operations, including opening/closing/changing shifts, task delegation, and scheduling team members.
- Oversees store money control: register counts, bank withdrawals, armored car pickups, safe deposits, change orders, and all aspects of bookkeeping (ledger, invoices, cash reports, time records).
- Supervises merchandising by planning and implementing sets, resets, and revisions of departments, end stands, display tables, and promotional space using discount pricing, signs, advertising, and seasonality.
- Analyzes inventory trends; supervises inventory management, including ordering, stocking, pricing, returning, and transferring merchandise to avoid overstock and outs.
- Ensures execution of District Manager operational feedback.
- Implements store organization through hiring, placement, scheduling, and delegation.
- Ensures store/grounds are clean and presentable; manages repair, maintenance, and emergency response.
- Ensures compliance with laws and regulations, including the sale of alcohol, tobacco, fresh food, and pharmacy products.
- Ensures staff has working knowledge of all computer and technology systems (e.g., registers, StoreNet, Intercom+); contacts IT support for system issues.
- Complies with company policies and maintains respectful coworker relationships.
- Daily Planning and Execution
- Assigns daily operational responsibilities and tasks; sets expectations for store team members and assistant managers.
- Business Performance Management
- Analyzes financial and performance data; develops action plans to increase sales and control costs.
- Reviews KPIs daily and prepares discussions with district management.
- Reviews and analyzes asset protection data; implements action plans to reduce loss.
- Analyzes pharmacy performance indicators; supports pharmacy operations, including serving as a pharmacy technician when necessary and allowed by law.
- Analyzes clinic performance indicators and supports Clinic Coordinator/Manager.
- Business Planning
- Identifies sales opportunities to ensure store and pharmacy growth and performance.
- Manages inventory levels through ordering, stocking, liquidating, and anticipating fast-selling or seasonal items.
- People and Performance Management
- Manages team member performance: assigns responsibilities, sets goals, observes performance, provides feedback, and gives recognition.
- Manages employee career progression.
- Monitors and ensures timely completion of required training programs, including pharmacy training; provides coaching.
- Makes hiring, promotion, and termination decisions; addresses issues and disciplines team members, engaging HR as needed.
- Develops employee performance plans and follows up according to deadlines.
- Monitors and approves team member compensation.
- Promotes teamwork, motivates team members, and ensures compliance with corporate policies and employment laws.
- Communicates regularly through one-on-one discussions, group meetings, and soliciting input to ensure open communication.
- Training and Personal Development
- Participates in company and on-the-job training to improve skills and productivity; attends training requested by District Management and corporate, including Walgreens School of Operations completion within six months.
- Obtains pharmacy technician registration/licensure as required by state law; pursues PTCB or ExCPT certification as required.
- Seeks self-development by monitoring performance, setting high standards, and learning about retail and management best practices.
- Communications
- Serves as liaison between district, corporate, and the store; provides feedback and implements initiatives.
- Conducts community outreach (e.g., speaking with community members, physicians).
- Assists District Manager in planning and attending community events.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of retail management experience or High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of retail management experience.
- Licensed pharmacy technician as required by state or pharmacy assistant in WA state or licensed RPh within 12 months of Store Manager position start date.
- Willingness to work flexible schedule, including extended days, evenings, and weekend hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- PTCB or ExCPT Certification.
- Three years of retail management experience, including supervising others, managing, and assigning work.
- Licensed pharmacy technician, pharmacy assistant in WA state, or licensed RPh.
Pay
The current salary range for this position is $50,000 - $120,000. The actual salary offered will depend on factors including geography, skills, abilities, education, experience, and other relevant factors.
