Store Manager Candidate

About the role

The Store Manager Candidate supports store operations, focusing on employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, merchandising, and customer service. This limited-term role prepares external candidates for the Store Manager position by fostering leadership development and operational expertise.

Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 40-55 pounds. Occasional climbing, driving, and exposure to outdoor weather. Fast-paced environment with moderate noise level; some travel required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting, staffing, and training employees.
• Participate in merchandising, stocking, and store presentation according to company standards.
• Manage inventory, including damages, markdowns, and stock levels; prepare and conduct inventories.
• Ensure product availability by following proper ordering practices.
• Lead customer service efforts and ensure a safe, clean shopping environment.
• Support store opening and closing activities, cash handling, and cash control procedures.
• Operate the store in the manager's absence, analyze sales and expense reports, and identify business trends.
• Complete necessary documentation accurately and timely.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Retail experience, especially external candidates, is advantageous.

Skills

• Ability to interpret operational documents, perform basic math, and learn cash register functions.
• Knowledge of inventory, merchandising, cash handling, and safety policies.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Problem-solving abilities and adaptability to varied situations.
• Bilingual Spanish speakers may be preferred at some locations.
