As a Manager Trainee, you will learn the duties of the Store Manager position and develop the skills required to deliver a Legendary Customer Experience, build the team, drive sales, manage inventory, control expenses, and reduce shrink.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, hire, develop, evaluate, discipline, and retain efficient team members.
- Deliver Legendary Customer Service through GURA: Greet the Customer, Uncover Customer’s Needs & Wants, Recommend Product Solutions, Ask to Add Value & Appreciate the Customer.
- Create and foster a welcoming environment and sense of belonging in the store, ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion are experienced daily.
- Schedule, organize, and plan daily activities for team members to ensure efficient store operations.
- Lead team members to provide a Legendary shopping experience that differentiates from the competition.
- Communicate company processes, policies, and directives to team members and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Create a desirable work environment through promotions, recognition, and empowerment.
- Resolve problems and conflicts for both team members and customers.
- Learn sales and profit management, ensuring accountability for top and bottom-line results.
- Promote a safe and productive work environment.
- Manage daily merchandise flow to ensure adequate in-stock and inventory controls.
- Organize merchandise resets to company specifications on a periodic basis.
- Implement and sustain merchandise presentation per company standards.
- Evaluate the competitive environment and collaborate with Operations and Merchandising teams.
- Train on processing daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork including invoices, schedules, product orders, returns, and reports.
- Train on periodic sales forecasting, payroll analysis, budget review, and documentation of team member evaluations and corrective action.
- Train on managing periodic price changes and communicating inventory needs to buyers and distribution centers.
- Learn to work with buyers, supply chain management, district managers, and distribution centers to solve inventory problems.
- Coordinate and conduct special sales events.
- Assist District Manager and other Store Managers in solving district issues and supporting operational needs.
- Engage in community involvement initiatives.
- Set the tone for and reinforce the mission and values of Tractor Supply Company, developing the store as the “Employer of Choice.”
- Address team member issues and concerns, working with the HR team when necessary.
- Assess and develop team members for advancement within the organization.
- Train to be responsible for budgeting, sales forecasting, and auditing store processes.
Requirements
- Retail experience and/or farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding knowledge is strongly preferred.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
- High school diploma; Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural-Science or Business-related field preferred.
- Ability to process information and merchandise through system and POS Register system.
- Ability to read, write, and count to accurately complete all documentation.
- Freely access all areas of the store including selling floor, side lot, stock area, and register area.
- Operate and use all equipment necessary to run a store such as a dolly, hand-truck, forklift, computer, and cash register.
- Move and transfer merchandise generally weighing 0-50 lbs. throughout the store.
- Work varied hours, days, nights, and weekends as business dictates, plus six days a week during peak seasons in the spring and fall.
- Work a minimum of 52 hours per week.
- Stand and walk for long periods of time, often up to four hours straight without a break.
- Travel to other store locations and to company functions.
