Store Manager
About the Role
Your work schedule will be 40 hours a week, including at least one weekend day. Current store hours are Wednesday – Monday 10am-6pm, Tuesday 10am-2pm. Your assigned store location may occasionally change temporarily for training or support purposes, but these changes are rare and will remain within the Portland region.
Responsibilities
- Store Operations (50%):
- Oversee all store operations, initiate, coordinate, and apply program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
- Complete store operational requirements, delegate tasks, follow up on work results, and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
- Manage financial responsibilities, including understanding discretionary spending categories and spending limits.
- Maintain staffing levels, meet labor budget goals, and schedule for the needs of the business.
- Maintain control of back banks, cash donations, and deposits.
- Monitor POS system, keep register information accurate, and train staff cashiers.
- Research products to ensure reasonable pricing, monitor staff pricing, and collaborate on shared pricing guidelines.
- Order and maintain stock for processing donations, site maintenance, and safety.
- Maintain a clean, well-organized store with clear signage, fully stocked purchased product sections, and neatly arranged donated items.
- Maintain relationships with the local community and ensure brand consistency.
- Collaborate on store improvement projects and support the Donation Pickup Team.
- Engage customers, donors, and community members in Habitat’s mission.
- Staff Success (25%):
- Handle staff hiring, onboarding, and training in collaboration with HR and the Director of Retail.
- Monitor and appraise work quality, motivate, train, counsel, and hold staff accountable.
- Create an atmosphere of openness, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Approve staff quarterly job objectives and prepare annual performance reviews.
- Volunteer Success (10%):
- Support the volunteer program by managing the daily performance of the in-store Volunteer Coordinator.
- Provide strategic guidance for volunteer engagement and collaborate with the Volunteer Program Team.
- Acquire knowledge of the volunteer management platform to step in if needed.
- Health and Safety (15%):
- Maintain compliance with legal requirements and oversee facility health.
- Plan and hold store safety meetings, manage safety concerns, and ensure a safe and clean environment.
Qualifications
- Exemplary leadership skills, a positive attitude, calmness under pressure, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Proven problem-solving skills and experience managing emergencies.
- Successful management of multi-faceted retail/reuse operations.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills and solid basic math skills.
- Ability to resolve customer, donor, and staff issues with courtesy and professionalism.
- Integrity, honesty, and alignment with Habitat’s culture and values.
- Record of building strong teams and fostering a positive culture.
- Comfort with accountability and giving/receiving direct feedback.
- Exposure to HR processes and experience in job performance counseling.
- Operational experience in hiring, performance management, scheduling, facility oversight, and budget management.
- 3-5 years of management experience, preferably as a Retail Store Manager.
- 2-4 years of customer service experience in fast-paced retail or high customer traffic environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing volunteers.
- Passion for DIY, resale, people, and Habitat for Humanity’s mission.
- Bilingual ability in Spanish.
- Knowledge to effectively communicate Habitat and ReStore’s mission and operations.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
You will work in an open warehouse and retail environment. The role is active and requires consistent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. You will lift, move, and/or load items over 50lbs with mechanical or team assistance.
Compensation
$60,497 to $74,109
